Only the peerless Stan Lee could come up with such a name. Just before the Marvel Comics Group dove into the super-hero realm with its 11/61 rollout of the Fantastic Four #1, comic book guru Stan Lee and his faithful gang gave us the super-villain "Fin Fang Foom" with this 10/61 Strange Tales #89 issue. Making his first comic book appearance, this dragon-like alien creature is seen menacing a fleeing Earthling on the spectacular front cover of this classic Silver Age gem. In addition to its status as a vintage key issue, this fifty-seven year old comic presents as a miracle of preservation. After more than five decades of careful storage by the original owner, this ancient comic book comes to market with a recently supplied CGC grade of (8.5), that is good enough for a Census rank of "1/2" at this level, with a mere 3 higher out of a Universal Grade population of 241. Label notations are "Off-White to White Pages, Stan Lee story, Steve Ditko & Paul Reinman art, Jack Kirby & Dick Ayers cover & art, 1st appearance of Fin Fang Foom".

In case you are wondering if there's more, the answer is yes. Our fortunate consignor maintained a sizeable collection of Silver Age comic books in careful storage since the 1960s. This amazing new to the market collection is being offered by H&S in our November, 2018 and February, 2019 auctions. All major key issues will be graded by CGC and offered on an individual basis, while the balance will be offered in groups of various size, from a few issues to a large "balance of collection" lot. Please review our Americana/Comics category for both auction dates noted above to view this truly impressive collection.
