Given the paucity of 19th-century baseball guides in any condition—let alone well-preserved examples—we were blown away by the sight of Ben Cavallo's collection of rare Beadle's Dime, De Witt's, Wright & Ditson and Bull Durham guides. Beadle's are especially elusive, with single surviving copies from the 1860s having sold at auction for as much as $1,800. Contemporary De Witt's guides are also highly desirable, while the later Wright & Ditson and Bull Durham guides are recognized for their unique aesthetic appeal. All those offered here present nicer than their technical grade. This pair of Bull Durhams constitutes the entire set that was ever produced and includes: 1910 (VG); 1911 (FR).
