Breathtaking 1888-89 N173 Old Judge Cabinets Cap Anson portrait. Graded 10 Poor 1 by SGC, this nineteenth century premium was obviously well admired by an early owner as it displays pin holes near each corner. The dapper Hall of Famer is pictured gazing to the left on this sepia canvas with limited surface abrasions/contusions barely impacting the Iowan's facial region. The sturdy cardboard foundation is crease-free and the moderately soiled blank back reveals a pencil mark near the upper left corner. Of particular importance is that the typed identifier placed across Anson's attire is straight and not curved. The former is particularly rare and is a key variation among collectors of the designation.
