Christy Mathewson may have been without a peer when it comes to World Series performance as his three shutouts in the 1905 World Series far exceeds the more recent heroics of Randy Johnson or Madison Bumgarner, who were recently lauded for appearing in three games (albeit partially in relief). Graded Authentic by SGC, this excellent 1912 S81 Silks #108 features a famous image of the storied hurler Mathewson. Measuring nearly 7 x 8-3/4", this early 20th century collectible is a mirror image of the Turkey Red Cabinets from the same era with “Matty” depicted with his right foot behind his left looking into the distance. The clear image is framed by a crisp perimeter with some light peripheral fraying on the obverse; the reverse does feature age-induced foxing but otherwise presents well.
