Even in “runner-up” status, the New York Yankees warranted attention in 1929 as they posted their traditional gaudy offensive numbers. In analyzing that campaign, one finds that Babe Ruth paced the circuit (for the 10th of 12 times) with 46 home runs and finished in the running for all three Triple Crown categories. The supporting cast played admirably, as well, but took second billing (as usual) to Ruth. Such is the arrangement of signatures on this baseball signed by (11) members of that 1929 Bronx roster. The unofficial “Marathon” orb has a creamy surface minimally affected by surface abrasions. The fountain pen signatures range from (“7”) to (“4”) in terms of strength. Includes: Sweet Spot: Ruth (“5” strength); North Panel: Grabowski and Paschal; South Panel: Burns, Koenig, Huggins (manager, d.1929; “4” strength), Meusel and Hoyt (“4” strength); West Panel: O’Leary (coach); East Panel: Gehrig (“5-6” strength) and Jorgens.
