With MVP, Triple Crown and seemingly annual World Series plaudits to his credit, Bronx icon Mickey Mantle was the ideal spokesperson for all things baseball. Cashing in on the switch-hitter’s popularity, Rawlings enlisted Mantle to hawk its wares in an early-1960s advertising campaign. A rare and pristine survivor, this point-of-sale poster portrays Mantle using the product. The 22x30 black-and-white poster shows the handsome slugger in his Yankees road attire with a facsimile signature in the upper left and a “Rawlings” trademark in the lower right.
